This upcoming season is a big year for Jafakids. As we roll out new club software to ease our growing pains, there is a lot of work going on behind the scenes to position our club for growth. Both our Vision & Mission statements have been updated and with a number of new appointments to the committee for 2025-2026, we have great team to help us execute.
To assist in achieving our objectives the committee acknowledges that it cannot do it alone. We are fortunate to have many passionate parents in the club to assist with weekly rides in a hands-on riding capacity, but we know that there's lots of untapped resources to assist with back-office planning. While continuing to grow and develop our coaching team is top priority, this year we want to decentralise some team functions away from senior coaches so they can focus on rider and coach development. To this end we are also looking for parents to consider volunteering their time to assist in administrative roles.
We encourage all parents to ride with the club. It's hard enough scheduling time to stay fit and if you're already transporting kids to the venue, why not ride as well. Across all our teams we can find a group to match your fitness and riding ability.
If you're already riding with a team, becoming a TEC is a great way to enhance your bike skills. This role requires you to attend a Coach the Coaches' course (lead by our Head Coach and external qualified instructors) along with formal police vetting and first aid training. You get to hang out with a great bunch of people, we cover all the training costs and provide an annual Woodhill membership, not to mention a snazzy club shirt !
Whether you're a riding parent, TEC or perhaps new to the club and have previous experience with coaching kids, we would encourage and support you to level up into an Assistant Coach or Lead Coach role. While basic riding skills are important you don't need to be a grade 5+ technical rider to lead our junior and intermediate groups. Guidance and support will be available from our Senior Coaches, and we can pair you with other experienced team leaders to get you familiar with the trails we ride.
This role will assist to decentralise some of the duties performed by the Head Coach. Initially you will be tasked with following up your team’s RSVP responses and helping coordinate coach & TEC attendance. On any given week some of our parent coaches will be unavailable due to work and personal commitments or illness. Team Managers will liaise with each other to organise relief coaches across teams to ensure we meet our required team metrics and coach ratios.
Our teams are split into the following groups and we expect most transfers will happen within these categories.
| Juniors | Jafa 1 to 4 |
| Intermediates | Jafa 5 to 9 |
| Seniors | Jets 1 to 4 |
| XC | XC 1 & 2 |
With so many events in the calendar year, we would appreciate your support to help plan and coordinate activities on the day. Each event will be led by a committee member and will cover a broad range of duties. Some events might be relevant and attended by your child which will make it especially easy to jump in and assist.
Some of our bigger events include,
We are also interested to hold new events including a mid-winter social gathering.
If you would like to help but just not sure how to balance your current work and family commitments, then this is the role for you. With no agenda or skillset required, we simply need a pool of volunteers we can reach out to when we're overloaded or something special comes up. We'll add you to our season's Volunteer List and send you a comms when help is needed. Volunteer assignments and tasks will be notified through our club software and you will be able to respond with an RSVP if you think it's right for you.
Every year the club holds an AGM to present awards, acknowledge contributions, thank retiring members and to vote in new committee members. Our committee is made up of eleven parents and positions are typically held for two or more years. If you have skillsets or connections you think would benefit the club don't hesitate to reach out and let us know. Sitting in on a few of our committee meetings is a great way to get a feel for the topics covered and work involved.
We hold committee meetings the last Thursday of the month and while these don't get mentioned much, they are open to the public. With our new website and management systems in place we'll look to post minutes of our meetings regularly.
